Review: pastor Neil taught on “The Battle for the Mind.” He pointed out that our battle is spiritual but the primary battlefield in in our thought life. In this lesson we’ll dig deeper into the drastic mental difference between people whose thought are controlled by their “flesh” and those whose thoughts are controlled by “the Spirit.” We will explore the biblical plan for gaining life and peace in your mind.
Read romans 8:5-13 Everyone wants to live a full, vital life. Everyone wants freedom from fear or anxiety. From verse 6: “the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace”. How can a person gain “peace and life?
In our culture, many believe that the problems and breakdowns people experience are caused mainly by environmental factors: upbringing, society, lack or education, etc. In light of verse 7 and 8, (…the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.) Can environment be the whole story? Where would you lay the blame? (Remember, if we can’t correctly diagnose a problem- we can’t fix it.)
