The Mystery of Freedom

by Foothills Church on December 15, 2019

In Pastor Neil’s sermon, “The Mystery of Freedom”, he explained that freedom is not the liberty to do whatever you wish, freedom is the ability to do what you ought. In this lesson we’ll dig deeper into the idea of Christian freedom, to discern the genuine freedom that Christ offers from the false freedom pedaled by the world.

Read Galatians 5:13 and 1 Peter 2:16. what is the danger that both Peter and Paul are warning us against?

Read 2 Peter 2:18-19. This passage is describing false teachers who promise us freedom but are themselves enslaved to their own passions. How do you suppose one becomes enslaved to their passions? Why are promises of freedom from say, sexual restraint, or marriage vows, or social mores always a pathway to slavery? What happens when a person throws off social and moral rules and just “follows their heart”?
