We are in the 3rd week of a study of Pastor Mark Hoffman’s new book: SPIRITUAL NAVIGATION. This week, read Chapter 4 “Spiritual Gifts Part I: The Manifestation Gifts”. Think about the questions below so you can be prepared to join the discussion at home group:
When facing life problems, Pastor Mark writes on page 41, “Our focus needs to be on how we can lay hold of God’s grace and assistance in every situation. By His supernatural empowering, God enables us to do what we otherwise could not do. He lifts us above our human limitations and brings us into His possibilities. One form of this grace is spiritual gifts.” Think about your life. Can you point to a time when God delivered His help to you through a spiritual gift? Also, can you recall a time where God used you to minister a spiritual gift to another? Come to home group ready to share it.
Read 1 Corinthians 12:7, then Pastor Mark’s comment at the top of page 47: “Since we don’t have to qualify for or deserve spiritual gifts, “each one” can be given one. Spiritual gifts are not just for pastors, traveling ministers, or spiritual superstars. God wants to give spiritual gifts to all of His children. He wants to use you. The real issue is not your worthiness but your availability.”
Since spiritual gifts are available to all, what do you suppose causes some Christians to view spiritual gifts with reservation or reluctance? Do you think there’s anything in your own life that restricts your ability to give and receive God’s help through spiritual gifts?
