We Believe In

  • heartfelt, Spirit-filled worship of God
  • practical application of the Bible
  • loving fellowship with others

At Foothills we believe God has called us to encourage people with Christ’s message of hope and love.  We place a strong emphasis on reaching out to others.  The Bible alone offers real solutions to the challenges people face today and at Foothills we are committed to helping people find and apply those solutions. We are also committed to training people who desire to minister to the world around them, helping them recognize, maximize and utilize their God-given gifts and talents. We’re glad you stopped by and hope that you will become a part of the Foothills family.

Statement of Faith

We believe God is the Creator of all things and that man exists to enjoy Him and bring glory to Him.

We believe sin separates man from God and that God, through the death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ, actually saves helpless sinners.  He does not merely assist sinners in saving themselves.  We believe sinners are saved through the grace of God alone, by faith, trusting in God.  When a person chooses to follow Jesus God, the Holy Spirit, comes to live in that person, continually giving power to live according to God’s Word. We believe that each believer receives the Holy Spirit at conversion.  We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which brings power to the believer for daily sanctified living and for the administration of spiritual gifts.  The infilling of the Holy Spirit is not a one-time event, but is repeatable throughout the believer’s life.

We believe the whole Bible is the Word of God, without error, and the only unfailing rule for proper living in every area of life, personal and public. We believe that Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth, and has commanded His Church to make disciples of all peoples in all nations, teaching them to love, honor, and obey God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe the devil, Satan, is a defeated foe, and that Jesus will return in glory to the earth. We believe that the earth and all its fullness is the Lord’s and that every area dominated by sin is in bondage and needs to be transformed to the purposes of God as expressed in His Word.  This includes the individual, the family, the Church, and society at large.

We declare the Lordship of Christ in every sphere through the preaching of His Word, through prayer and the lifestyle of the believer.

Our Purpose

We exist to

  • Unite with other Christians to bring the Kingdom of God and His rule to our region and throughout the world.
  • To equip adults, youth and children to successfully serve Jesus Christ and overcome life’s everyday challenges.

Our Mission

  • Grow in our ability to love and worship God
  • Share the truth of Jesus Christ with our community
  • Train and utilize church members in ministering to others
  • Unite with and support the effort of the entire Body of Christ
  • Connect with families, adults, children and youth – and support them in their decision to walk with God

Our History

We actually began as two churches, one pastored by David Hoffman and the other by his brother Mark Hoffman.  In 1986 the two churches merged to pursue the goal of bringing the Kingdom of God to the culture of East San Diego County.

Our early meeting were held in some pretty unlikely places, like the San Carlos Recreation Center.  Early Sunday mornings our Worship Leader, Hank Dmochowski, would truck in amps, drums, guitars and other equipment while Pastors David and Mark Hoffman alternated weeks of preaching and cleaning restrooms.

In 1991 we began renting a small space in our current location on West Bradley in El Cajon, but it sure looked different.  Our first sanctuary was a small room at 365 West Bradley, which doesn’t exist anymore.  We quickly outgrew that space and moved to 315 West Bradley.  We remodeled that sanctuary three times, added a second Sunday morning service and even a Saturday night service, but eventually we outgrew that area too.

In 2003 we bought the buildings we had been renting on West Bradley and broke ground on the new Sanctuary building.  Our 1750 seat sanctuary is one of the largest auditoriums in East County.  When the sanctuary project was finished we completely rebuilt the building that is now our Youth Center.

Foothills now reaches out beyond the East County, servicing children, youth and families throughout the San Diego region.

What You Can Expect

At Foothills we are first and foremost a family.  The atmosphere is relaxed and there are kids everywhere.

ATTIRE

When you arrive at one of our weekend services you will notice that the dress is casual. We want you to feel comfortable and at home here.

PARKING

We have special Visitor Parking to make it easier for you when you make your first few visits to Foothills.  We have shuttles in the General Parking areas to pick you up at your car and deliver you to the courtyard near the entrances of our Sanctuary and Youth Center.

FINDING YOUR WAY AROUND

You will find information booths in the courtyard, the Sanctuary building and the Youth Center staffed with friendly, informed people to help you navigate around our campus or answer any questions you might have.

WORSHIP

Services begin with about 20 minutes of heartfelt worship.  At Foothills we love to worship Jesus.  Most people stand during worship and some raise their hands.  You are invited to worship in a way that is meaningful and comfortable for you.  We love having our youth with us for the worship portion of the service.  Junior High students are released to their class after worship concludes.  High School students stay in the main sanctuary for the message.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Following worship we open with prayer, video announcements and other family business, which includes providing a special packet for first time visitors.  The packet contains information about Foothills and includes a complimentary book authored by one of our Senior Pastors, David and Mark Hoffman.  The packet also has an information card to tell us about you and your experience with us.  We appreciate your input!

TEACHING

Each week one of our Senior Pastors delivers an inspiring, Spirit-guided message from God’s Word with a focus on relevancy and practical application for today.  The pastors preach on alternate weekends, so  you’ll hear David one week and Mark the next.  Each pastor has his own special flavor of encouragement, exhortation and insight.

MINISTRY

The final few minutes of the service are set aside specifically for God, through His Holy Spirit, to interact with His people.  Trained members of the Foothills Ministry Team are available during this time if you would like someone to pray with you.  If you prefer to pray privately we have a special area to accommodate that so you can kneel and pray uninterrupted.  During this time of ministry there is a bit more worship time for those who are not engaged in prayer.

After the service we hope you’ll stay around a while, have a cup of coffee and stop by our Visitors Booth.  We really want to get to know you!
